Key Items For Building A Corporate Wardrobe

The Corporate Capsule Wardrobe is King! Dress up for the board room or channel the laid back business look – whichever you choose, the easiest way to shop for the office is to put together a Capsule Wardrobe. Let Gina’s online influencer shows you how you should dress for the corporate world.

The game plan is  to build a wardrobe of quality , easily mixed and matched pieces and keep them on constant rotation adding in as it takes your fancy. This could gain you 10 minutes extra beauty time in the morning (hair or sleep). And let’s face it, the effortlessness it exudes feels very chic – less is more or so they say…

So let’s get started Fashionistas:

  1. Plan sensibly – buy what you know you will wear.
  2. Buy more black for easy styling and consider how many ways you can wear a piece.
  3. Start building with essentials – it helps to know where to begin so Gina@work has put together FIVE basic building blocks that start to construct a working capsule wardrobe.

Key items for your working wardrobe:

Belted Shirt dress

This is the biggest item of the season and you should buy a ¾ or long sleeve version with a midi hemline in order for it to work successfully all the year round. Choose a big statement sleeve for Fashion fun. It doesn’t have to be black, of course, but neutrals and monochrome shades are easier to style. You’ll wear this staple to the office with loafers (big trend – try elevated soles) or SMART trainers , in the summer with flat mules and in the winter with your ESSENTIAL knee high boots. It can be underpinned with a crisp white Tee or neutral polo neck or worn solo with lashings of gold jewellery- maybe a statement choker. True desk to dinner stuff!

The Perfect White T-shirt

Every woman needs a hard working white tee – or seven – in her capsule wardrobe . You can layer it underneath dresses, let it tone down tailoring or team with jeans and heels (Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow’s LA uniform). Go for a style that’s slim fit but not skin tight, making it a real layering hero. Shop around for your favourite styles – the Gina team spotted loads online.

A Classic Black Suit

In case you didn’t know, the trouser suit is so back…and in a big way. Invest in the most flattering cut and you will have great separates as well as the actual suit. An oversized blazer looks great over a dress or as part of the jeans and heels combo. Wide leg pants look great with a slouchy shirt or Tee and trainers. But whatever the silhouette cigarette or flared pick an elasticated waist for comfort – that’s a no brainer.

The Oversized Shirt

You will def be needing a slouchy top or crisp oversized cotton shirt in your Capsule Corporate Collection. Go for long line hem for layering and comfort. If you need inspiration check out Victoria Beckham – she styles hers with everything from skinny pants to pleated midi skirts.

The Pleated or Bias Cut Skirt

This skirt (one or both) will serve you in so many ways, especially if it’s a demure ankle length making it easier to get that LOOK. Pair with a white t-shirt or slouchy knits – looking great under that blazer. Team with trainers during the day and swop to heels in the evening.
